CURRICULUM MUSIC LESSONS
We offer class music teaching using a tried and tested scheme of work. The scheme of work comes with a curriculum intent statement, progression within music overview and a knowledge organiser for each musical topic. Musical topics exceed the National Curriculum requirements and often use themes of the wider curriculum as a stimulus. For example, the Rainforests unit covers music from South America and takes Rousseau’s Tiger in a tropical rainstorm as a stimulus. Assessment is built in to the knowledge organisers. The scheme offers listening, performing and composing opportunities using a range of resources such as web based resources, a range of instruments and ipad music apps.
Opportunities to learn an instrument for a minimum of a term are built into the scheme of work. For example, the Greensleeves unit of work provides an opportunity for the class to learn the recorder and eventually perform a Tudor Pavane. Born in the USA topic offers the opportunity to learn the Ukulele. Instrumental opportunities are built in for Y3, Y4 and Y5.
Singing is at the heart of the music curriculum. I have a strong background in singing having been a tutor for Sing for Pleasure and directed the Knowsley Youth Choir for twenty years. Under my direction the choir achieved ABRSM choral examination grade A. I have also directed Primary choirs to perform with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. I have a vast experience of delivering whole school and Key Stage singing practices and can offer this service to schools.
